Legacy Voice Services and New Multimedia Services on NGN/IMS>>
The market is ready for the multimedia services offered by Next Generation Networks. Service Providers are forced to consider how to migrate consumers to a multimedia NGN/IMS whilst keeping a positive cash flow. Profitability depends not only on the business case for future multimedia services but also on the containment of the legacy network operating costs. Incumbents have to maximize the revenue from new services whilst minimizing the cannibalization of existing revenues. This talk outlines the Alcatel-Lucent NGN/IMS approach as the migration strategy that will meet these challenges. Juan Carlos López Rivada, Alcatel-Lucent
How VoIP is changing the telco business model & how telcos must transform to exploit & embrace the future>>
The Telco Business has changed very little in the last 100yrs since its invention in 1876. The "Strowger" switch was still in use 100yrs after its addition to the Telco network, IDD came during the 60's and ADSL in 1987. However, the Business Model remained pretty much the same , even after privatisation - "Time and Distance". However, broad that generalisation is, there were tariff models and services available to corporate clients, but on the whole they were based on variations of what the Telco business knew best - "Time and Distance". VoIP is changing that , the users do not see time and distance on the Internet, the whole value perception has changed. Geography has no relevance for internet users who access servers in California or Australia at the same time on separate or tabbed Browser Windows. The industry competition basically used the lowering prices or extending distance to carve out market share. "Cheaper per minute calls" or "free calls" within a geography in off-peak times. Now however, calls can be made for "Free" to any part of the globe at any time. As the model changes Telco's need to find new revenue streams , extract more cost from operations and change the way the users perceive the value. Industry competition has softened the margins and VoIP will change the industry. BT's approach is to embrace the future with 21cn an all IP network, with a new portfolio of services. This presentation will focus on changes caused by one of the most significant changes the industry has seen. Nigel Dye, BT Global Services, Global Telecom Markets

Breakout Sessions Carriers / Enterprise>>
Breakout Session Carrier (Room 1): SIP
See SIP as a rendezvous protocol that facilitates communications between people as well as access to services and applications. Recall that GSM gave us the “anywhere, anytime” mobility model. Now imagine the possibilities afforded by SIP-compliant, dual-mode wireless devices and open operating systems. Add seamless ubiquity and presence and you get a powerful cocktail. Now you can download third-party apps and content and extend the model to “my device, doing things my way”. In other words, a consistent user interface for all message types and services. Find out what your way will be by attending this session.

Breakout Session Carrier (Room 1): Why IMS and who wants it ?
IMS is a functional specification that enables common elements to be consolidated in a logical form. Unfortunately not everyone understands this and misunderstanding can drive excess costs. This session will give a pragmatic look at the standard from the carriers’ perspective. How can complicated specifications be delivered in a way that enables expansion in the future?
