4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) describes the evolution of mobile technology that will deliver users the benefits of faster data speeds and new services by creating a new radio access technology that's optimized for IP-based traffic and offers operators a simple upgrade path from 4G networks. Alongside LTE is work on the evolutionary development of the core architecture of mobile networks, called system architecture evolution (SAE).

Together, they will offer operators networks with significant performance enhancements over 4G, with a target of two to four times the spectral efficiency of 4G/HSPA networks. This means LTE networks will be able to squeeze more bits of data into the same amount of spectrum as 4G and HSPA networks, translating into increased data speeds and/or increased capacity.

Why Stockholm

The first LTE deployments have already gone live in the Nordic countries. TeliaSonera and Telenor have already set alive their 4G networks in Stockholm and Oslo with further cities/areas and operators like f.i. Tele2 to follow. The LTE Forum 2010 in Sweden has been covering these projects and therefore was a huge success. The LTE Forum 2011 will be the conference to discuss what happened since the LTE Forum 2010. It shall get investigated, what has developed in a successful way, are there certain problems remaining and which lessons have been learned at all. So again in 2011, there is no better place to go than Stockholm, if your business is associated with 3G/4G network technology.
