FTTH Forum 2008: New Speakers confirmed !

The FTTH Forum 2008 delivers 4 dedicated streams on Regulatory Issues, Business Models, Broadband Deployment and Rural FTTx.

Last week we have informed you about the presentation of Roland Montagne from Idate, the main consultancy of the FTTH Council Europe.

Today let me just highlight one special conference session, which is especially interesting, if you are coming from a regulator, a municipality, a utility company, a Telco Operator or if you are an IT-consultant:

Challenges of Municipal Broadband Deployment

Leading municipal FTTH service providers and experts representing communities, that have already installed fiber networks to their residents will relay their valuable experiences in deploying FTTH, from concept to revenue. Getting financing, overcoming regulatory hurdles, acquiring content, building the network, and marketing to win will all be discussed. Hear the voices of experience to help you create a better FTTH experience for your residents, businesses, and cities:

* Hartwig Tauber, Managing Director of the FTTH Council Europe will present “ARGE Glasfaser Waldviertel”, a project about three rural municipalities (total: 1.500 households) in the north-eastern part of Lower Austria (near Czech border) deployed an FTTH-network while building a new sewer system. In addition they built a fiber-backbone to connect the three municipalities. The network is an open access network..

* Based on the real Case Study of DynamoNet in Finland, Andreas Ek (CEO) will talk about: FTTx development in rural areas – social responsibility needed?

Dynamo Net was established in 2002 by the city of Narpes to improve the broadband services in the region. Since 2003 Dynamo Net has deployed optic fiber and wireless networks to serve citizens, businesses and public services. Today Dynamo Net in cooperation with service providers serves nearly 1000 customers with high speed internet, ip-telephony, TV-services. Dynamo Net is one of eight founders of the Finnish Open Networks cluster (FIONETS) which actively works for open access and to simplify business with service providers and telecom operators.

* Benoit Cosandey will arrive from Switzerland with a deep experience in Open Access Networks and earlier this year he was invited to speak at the annual FTTH Council Europe Meeting (Paris) in front of more than 2500 delegates about the “First FTTH Network in Switzerland”.

* Still Agnes Huet CEO of the company CDS (Comptoir des Signaux), a telecommunications consultancy, to local and regional authorities in France and Europe will talk of her experience in France, presenting Open-access FTTH Networks by French municipalities and regional authorities : an exemple of opportunities

At the end of this panel you will have the opportunity to address your questions and to discuss possible solutions.
