>>11h50 | 12h20 Trends in spectrum valuation and dealing with the risk of the data tsunami>>

This presentation will survey recent spectrum auction results around the world and provide an overview of current market prices, how prices differ by spectrum band and general commentary on activity in spectrum auctions.

Whether for new spectrum or the renewal of expiring existing licences, one of the big issues facing operators is the potential data traffic tsunami and how to respond. This presentation will provide a simple example based on real option valuation to reflect and evaluate the CAPEX risk posed by very strong growth in mobile data volumes.

>>15h00 | 15h30 Panel session >>

LTE is a mainstream technology. But despite being the first region in the world to introduce commercial services, Europe has less than 5% of the global share of LTE subscriptions. The panellists will discuss how each sees the 4G/LTE market today, opportunities and challenges, drivers for introducing LTE into their networks, the timing of these investments, and the situation regarding user devices. Which are the key strategies, enabling technologies and applications for a successful 4G/LTE business? and what can be learned from other regions - particularly Asia and North America? Spectrum aspects will also be debated to confirm the best options for FDD and TDD deployments, and to help identify the bands and solutions - as well as changes to regulation, which will ensure that immediate and long term requirements can be met.

Moderator: Alan Hadden, GSA

  • Tonu Grunberg, TeliaSonera
  • Imad Aldin Ribhi Badawneh, Etisalat

>>15h50 | 16h15 How to grow LTE traffic by offering exclusive and relevant content.>>

Today implementation of LTE networks is driven by technology and competition. In order to launch and establish LTE as a mass consumer product Universal Music presents outstanding solutions that enable frequent, but not necessarily high usage of LTE. Universal Music can provide exclusive services that are fully managed to stand out and provide clear competitive advantages. These services are interactive and fully integrated with global and local social media activities. Bespoke solutions are tailored to the operator’s strategic and business objectives. Therefore Universal Music developed ways to monitor the success of such services. A proven track record and successful use cases from around the globe will be presented by Claudius Boller, Business Development Director Universal Music MENA FZ LLC.

>>16h15 | 16h40 Fit for Mobile Broadband – Operator’s Transformation from Voice Centric towards Data Centric Business>>

Mobile data business is fundamentally different to the legacy mobile voice business. Smart and sophisticated quality management becomes “the” key success factor. Data quality perception depends on multiple variables, whereas network planning has to consider interdependencies between quality, coverage, and capacity simultaneously. Successful MNOs are performing transformation programs to a data centric business with end2end quality as guiding principle. The presentation highlights the way some operators successfully performed that transformation programs and lessons learnt. That includes among others: The alignment of regionalized quality targets between Technology and Marketing is at the core of mobile data strategy and planning. Data quality, and data usage can be directly linked to cell utilization. Utilization therefore is one of the most important indicators for network quality and it‘s steering.
