The Centro Cultural de Belém is one of Portugal's most symbolic
institutions and plays a major role in national cultural life.
Situated in an area immersed in history and endowed with numerous
tourist facilities, the CENTRO CULTURAL DE BELÉM is housed
in a building whose architecture is internationally renowned.
It is in the immediate vicinity of a number of leisure centres,
monuments and museums and affords the only facilities in Lisbon
capable of serving a dual purpose: providing its customers with
prestigious commercial amenities alongside rich cultural resources.
Its convention centre played host to the Portuguese Presidency of
the European Community in 1992 and is endowed with a range of structures,
which, alongside the other facilities it has to offer, make it one
of the most sought after locations in Lisbon for hosting international
congresses and meetings as well as seminars, conferences and workshops
and product presentations. Its largest setting, the GREAT AUDITORIUM,
seats 1500 and is 1700 m2 in area.
The Centre also houses two foyers measuring 350 m2 and 450 m2 in
area, respectively. The SMALLER AUDITORIUM seats 500 and is endowed
with 8 support rooms of various sizes.
The Convention Centre also boats a further seven rooms which provide
customers with a wide range of high-quality services and assure
technical conditions - in terms of audiovisual aids, telecommunications,
simultaneous translations etc. - security, restaurants, parking
and other services.
In addition to the above amenities the Centre also functions as
a leisure centre and has a wide variety of restaurants and bars
at its disposal incorporated within a series of gardens and terraces
overlooking the river Tagus. Bookshops, Art Galeries, photo- and
audiovisual stores, wine-shop and gift-shops combine with the Centre's
shows and exhibitions to afford the perfect setting for those wishing
to while away their free time.
Over the last four years the CENTRO CULTURAL DE BELÉM has
been the preferred location for events organised by some of the
most known domsteic and international brands as well as for conventions
coordinated by major State and private institutions. Owing to the
high quality and prestigious nature of its amenities it was the
preferred location for welcoming Heads of State and Governments
from across the globe at the European Organisation for Security
and Cooperation (OSCE) Summit held in Lisbon in 1996.
